The Level Analysis Tool (Auto-Balancing)

One-click level balancing: Nova analyzes each track’s loudness and sets clean, balanced starting fader levels for your whole session.

Let Nova Set the Levels.

Balancing volume is the most important part of mixing, but it’s also the most tedious. Setting the faders for 10 different ad-lib tracks, 4 backing vocals, and a lead can take forever.

The Level Analysis Tool is a "magic button" that listens to your entire session and automatically sets a balanced starting volume for every single track.

1. Why use the Level Analysis Tool?

The Level Analysis Tool saves you a huge amount of time by instantly getting you most of the way to a balanced mix. Instead of manually riding faders for every lead, backing vocal, and ad-lib, Nova quickly sets sensible starting levels so you can focus on the creative part. It’s especially useful for ad-libs, which are often recorded much louder or quieter than the lead; the tool automatically tucks them behind the main vocal so they support the performance instead of fighting it.

On top of that, Level Analysis helps protect your mix from unwanted distortion. By setting safe, conservative volume targets for each track, it keeps your overall level from “clipping” - hitting the red and distorting – so you start working from a clean, controlled gain structure.

2. How to Use It

You’ll find the "Analyze Levels" button in the main toolbar.

Step A: Click Analyze

  • Nova will scan every active stem in your project.
  • She looks at the "Peak" (loudest point) and "RMS" (average loudness) of each file.

Step B: The Adjustment

  • Watch your faders! You will see them automatically snap to new positions.
  • Lead Vocals: Usually set front and center.
  • Backing Vocals: Tucked slightly lower.
  • Ad-libs: Pushed to the background.
  • Beat: Balanced to support the vocals without drowning them.

Step C: Fine-Tuning

  • This is a starting point. Once Nova sets the levels, hit play.
  • If you want the ad-libs louder, just grab the fader and push it up. You are now tweaking a balanced mix rather than starting from zero.

Pro Tip: Use Level Analysis at the very beginning of your session, right after uploading. It gives you a clean, organized slate before you start adding creative effects like Reverb or Saturation.
